Dog Health Care Made Fun – Puppy Bathing
Keeping puppies clean is one hard task, and if you have ever tried it, you’ll know what I mean. However, in order to stay on top of good dog health care, it is important that you bathe your puppy on a regular basis. Remember that the way you bathe your puppy teaches your dog a lot about how he has to be kept clean. So, in order to have a clean, happy dog at the end, the way you go about your pet health practices is important and you should take the following advice:
The first thing – before you even run the bathwater – is to collect all the supplies you will need. These include a coat-conditioning spray (for long-haired dogs) and a natural-bristle brush during times of heavy shedding. Plus, you’ll need a large towel for your dog. Then you need to make sure you’re wearing clothes that you don’t mind about getting wet. Bathe your puppy when its hungry to get its full attention. To make sure your dog behaves well, give him some treats when in the bath. Remember, you want this to be fun. Next up is the comb – brush the puppy’s fur for a while. Remember that tangled fur is hard to remove when wet, so always brush before the water gets turned on. Spray long coats with conditioner and brush thoroughly, then comb through, making sure you get all the way down to the skin.
Pay attention to the areas behind your dog’s ears. Tell your puppy how good he is at having a bath and reward him with treats. Some dogs are more attentive if they have toy in the bath too. If your puppy has sensitive eyes, use a baby shampoo on his head area. You don’t want to burn your puppy’s delicate skin, so always test the water temperature before filling the bath tub. Then the fun part! Gently spray mild warm water onto its fur. Apply some shampoo to your dog’s coat by massaging in circles for short coats, or massaging in long strokes with the growth of hair in long coats, to prevent tangling. It is also useful to use a scrub brush to massage the shampoo in. After completing this once, make sure you do it again to make sure your puppy is extra clean. You’ll always find that there’s more soap to get out! Lastly, condition the fur and rinse – then your dog is ready to be wrapped up in a towel and dried off.
